Improving Employment Outcomes for Youth with Justice Involvement
In December, the National Youth Employment Coalition (NYEC) released a toolkit that introduces practitioners in the juvenile justice field to best practices in connecting young people involved in the juvenile justice system with employment, and the federal programs available to support education, training, and employment. Thomas Showalter and Rashaun Bennet of NYEC will provide a brief introduction and take grounding questions. Thomas will then facilitate a discussion with practitioners whose work is featured in the toolkit, with chances for attendees to ask questions of the panelists. The panelists represent Our Piece of the Pie, based in Hartford, CT, which provides youth development services to individuals between 14-24 years old; the Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council, based in Tumwater, WA., which is a local workforce development board and operates a workforce development program within Washington State’s juvenile correctional facilities; and FHI 360 National Institute for Work and Learning’s (NIWL) Compass Rose Collaborative*, a multi-site project funded by the U.S. Department of Labor that improves the education and employment outcomes of young adults involved or previously involved in the juvenile and/or criminal justice system.

Panelists:
- Thomas Showalter (Moderator), Executive Director National Youth Employment Coalition
- Rashaun Bennett, Senior Program Associate of National Youth Employment Coalition
- Hector Rivera, Chief Operating Officer of Our Piece of the Pie
- Cheryl Fambles, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council
- Caitlin Dawkins, Director of Juvenile Justice at FHI 360
